I wonder whether I can adjust the price on the artwork that I will be displaying.
Sorry, no.
|
I am a photographer living in Milwaukee WI. I was born and raised in Kingsport TN and have been doing work there for the past 4 years. A good percentage of my photographic work is produced in and around the East Tennessee region. I was wondering if there could be a liberal policy regarding my work and your exhibition. > > I understand if you say no, just thought I would ask. A literal reading would make you ineligible, for sure. BUT if you used a Kingsport address, we'd have no way of knowing! Personally I don't think folks born and raised in the area should be excluded - especially since we are a mobile society. So go ahead! I'll put rewording the requirement on the agenda for the next show (in Pulaski, in 2009.)

May I enter if I am not a BRAA Exhibiting Artist? Yes!
|
May I enter if I am not a BRAA member? Yes, so long as you are 18 and live within 150 miles.

I would like to suggest an alternative method of specifying the size requirements for two-dimensional art. First, it seems as if greater "space" is given to 3D art, since the maximum size is 5 feet. Second, 2D art in this context specifies that it can only be 4 feet high & wide. I'd like to suggest that a total of square inches for 2D art be used. e.g: 48" x 48" the total area = 2304 square inches. 65"x 25" the total area = 1625 square inches yet this work is nearly 5 and 1/2 feet wide, or high. True! 2D entries totalling no more than 2304 square inches in area will be considered - I don't think this violates the spirit of this show's requirements, and I hope it gives you the 'wiggle room' you need.

Does the image need to include the mat and frame? Can it just be the painting? Good question! If you don't crop, then we will. There are two advantages to photographing works before they're framed: You only need to frame works that are accepted. You don't have the glare issues of shooting art behind glass. Matting and framing can make a piece look better (or worse) - so croping to the edge of the work helps to level the playing field.

How close are you to the New River? About 6 miles

I have gone several times onto the website for the application and prospectus, but can't get it. All I get is a dark grey screen. Can you either tell me what I'm doing wrong or email me the info. Is this happeing to anyone else? (I emailed the form and will happliy do so for you if you're having trouble.) You will see a gray screen while the pdf file is downloading. If you have a slowdem, please be patient. The file is about 500k. - LB

Is Susan Bloom your relative?Nope - LB

If a photograph is accepted for the exhibit, would I then be able to deliver a large matted and framed print of it? Yes! - LB

A major concern with digital images is whether the monitor used for viewing the images will be properly calibrated so that the colors appear the way they are supposed to appear. However, if digital images are the preferred medium, I would like to comply. I appreciate your concern! All submitted works will be converted to digital format for jurying so any monitor/platform issues will affect all entries equally. (Jurying for awards will be made from the actual works after the show is hung.) I've created a digital tip sheet that may be helpful. - LB
