For the past 5 years Susan Hensley has taught Dr. Cindy Wood's ALS 1004--Ag Arts class once per semester as a guest lecturer. The title of her lecture is "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" which incorporates Betty Edward's book of the same name and "Whole Brain Thinking" by Wonder & Donavan. This lecture is a part of Dr. Wood's plan to try to get left brained students in her department of agriculture to "think outside the box". |

The Tink Ewald Memorial Award and First Place Watercolor went to Myrtle Hooker's Baskets, and the First Place Other Media award went to Leslye Bloom's Step up to the Light at the 2008 League of Roanoke Artists' Showcase, judged by Larry M. Steene. Other BRAA Members shown were Lee Baker, Carol Bitner, Carol Frye, Susan Lockwood, Martha Rhodes, Olivia Smith, and Nancy Stellhorn. |

ART JAM: Six artists are sharing an open studio event on Sunday, October 19, from 1-6. Martha Dillard and Martha Olson, members of BRAA, along with Judy Schwab, Jennifer Lovejoy, Ali Wieboldt and Ann Reardon, will be showing their work in a celebration they call Art JAM at the home of Martha Olson, 3107 Old Farm Road, Blacksburg. This is just past the intersection of Glade Rd. and Meadowbrook. Need better directions? Call Martha Olson at 552-7161. |

Second place - Nancy Norton for her threedimensional stained glass panel entitled “Transformation.” Third place was awarded to Carol Wolfe for her photograph “Reeds and Reflection.” The variety in media displayed was further illustrated in three honorable mention awards presented to Suzanne Brooks of Blacksburg for her work “Acrylics and Dyes on Piece of Canvas;” Sue Brozovsky of Catawba for her stone carving entitled “Evita;” and Susan Hensley of Blacksburg for her abstract watercolor collage entitled “Boutique.” |

A retrospective exhibit of the work of a noted local artist Barbara Capps,who passed away in 2007, is at the Montgomery Museum and Lewis Miller Regional Art Center through July and August. A long-standing BRAA Member, she was extremely influential in her own work and that of her many students.
