Sue BrozovskyEA and Susan HensleyEA… |
"I look at art, music, architecture or whatever as conduits to communal sharing, comfort, faith, support, love and all those things. If you believe in a creator and a creator has given us various gifts, then why don't we use those to nurture, give comfort and give support to others?" said Susan Hensley.
"We are not all auditory learners, so the visual aspect can be very uplifting," said parishioner and artist Sue Brozovsky, who teaches art classes in a stone-making studio in the church basement. "You can get as much out of seeing as out of hearing. It provides another avenue for worship to take place or for spirituality, meditation, tranquility. You name it, you can find it there."

Stories, photos wanted for Nadine Allen Book |
Dear BRAA Members:
I'm working with my cousin (a graphic artist) to put a book together on Mom's artwork and life. It's getting to be quite a project however we hope to have a good draft by July 4th week. That's when Mom's sisters and family get together in Maryland for the week. I wanted to check with you to see if any of the people connected with the art groups would be interested in sending me anything. Something from a one line encouraging thought to a memory of working with Mom. We have some of this from the sketchbooks used at Glade Church but I thought it would be good to have something from her friends in the art community. I'd appreciate it if you could put the word out. Anything sent needs to be sent to me by April 30th. Please ask them to send it to Mary Woerner.
note: In honor of Nadine, Mary is a BRAA member. |

New Age Satirist SALLY MOOKEA is the next featured artist in the downtown Blacksburg gallery Art Pannonia. The exhibition is between January 31 and April 3, 2007. The artist appeared in a group show 2 years ago. Her paintings became so popular with the local public that I have invited her back to exhibit as a solo artist."Furthermore" is the title of her intriguing exhibit, which misteriously covers a variety of possible subjects.
Sally has lived in Blacksburg since 1954. She has worked as a nurse and a volunteer, and she has painted seriously for 16 years. She works in all media, using a wide range of colors and techniques to express imaginary as well as real life experiences. Sally Mook is also a poet, and her pictures are full of humor and hidden messages. She has won numerous awards, and her artwork is in many private and corporate collections throughout America and Europe. |

BLACKSBURG is co-sponsoring an exhibit with the ARMORY featuring the eight historic buildings the Town. Artists are invited to submit art in any medium based on the exteriors of the buildings for an exhibition in June. There is no submission fee, and submissions are accepted until April 15. The necessary info should be in the call to artists, but I’m happy to answer any questions if we’ve missed something. Deb Sim is working with her students at VT to get this information out to Blacksburg schools as well. Students are welcome and encouraged to submit.
