After the BRAA Exhibitions
program was formed in 1994 with four locations. More and
more area business have become Gallery Sites or have 'graduated' to arange their own art shows...
Community: Our shows
are produced for the enjoyment and edification of our community. We work
with artists to improve their exhibition skills. We work with the community
to increase awareness of local artists and their different styles and
methods. We cooperate with businesses to display member artists' work.
These businesses are chosen to maximize exposure for different facets
of the community.
Artists: We organize group
and solo exhibitions of original art by artist members and candidates.
Initially there was one application option including: 5 to 10 representative slides, a 100 word
maximum Biography and 100 word maximum Statement. Now there are three (it's easy.)
Arts Organizations: We cooperate with other non-profit arts organizations to produce jurired
and special theme shows (e.g. 50th Anniversary Show, New River Art,
and Artbytes.)
Artist Database: We maintain a database of artists names, addresses and preferred media
which we regularly share with other Virginia Museum Partners and non-profit
organizations like the Arts Council of the Blue Ridge (Roanoke,) The
Arts Depot (Abingdon,) and the Fine Arts Center for the New River Valley,
and Municipalities (e.g. Blacksburg, for Steppin' Out.)
Businesses: In addition to cooperating with Galleries and Merchant Partners, The BRAA is an
active member of the Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg.
Galleries: Individual businesses that are interested in becoming exhibition
venues should contact the exhibition chairperson at P.O.Box 525, Blacksburg,
VA 24060. Exhibition venues must reserve a we'll lit, secure, uncluttered
exhibition space that is easily assessible to the public.display BRAA
membership and exhibitions information, tolerate a diversity of g-rated
art subjects, sizes, colors, and media.
Scheduling: Typically shows
are arranged six months to a year in advance.
