BRAA Exhibiting Artist Approval
-

All BRAA members are welcome to participate in general shows (like the Critter Show, the Shoe Show of 2006 or New River ART) before they are approved for solo exhibitions.

When it began, the BRAA Artists were a small group and knew each other well. Now that the BRAA is blessed with over ninety Member Artists, in addition to a larger proportion of arts supporters, it is necessary to review artist's work. Approved Artists range from the internationally known through beginning professionals (never call it a hobby!)

Approval Options: Please contact Pat Bevan

Option 1: Provide a list of three juried shows including show name, show location, dates and juror with digital or hard copy of your works hung in these shows. Please include title, media and dimensions for each work. OR

Option 2:Provide digital images, slides or hard copy photos of five representative works. Please include title, media and dimensions for each work. Optionally include a brief artist's biography. (After acceptance, we require artists to hang a brief bio with the exhibits, so early preparation will help you later.)

The committee will meet several times a year to approve new exhibiting artists. The review committee will be 4 mature artists. The members will rotate among our mature artist members. The committee will also be anonymous.

Variable Show Capacity:

Galleries have been chosen to accommodate different numbers of works - from less than 10 pieces to more than 60 pieces, depending on size. [more…]

Notification:

Exhibitions are distributed as equitably as possible. Approved Artists should notify the committee when they have of body of work ready to show. Frequently, two or more artists with compatible/contrasting work are asked to share a venue.

Cancellation:

Unprofessional conduct (e.g. missing hanging/pick-up deadlines) can result in cancellation of artist-member status. Artists will be notified in writing and may re-apply after the period of one calendar year..

Cheap:
There is no sales commission!  Most local galleries charge 30 to 60% on the sales price. Many artists choose to make donations after a sale.

Easy:
The approval process is easy.

Professional:
Help in framing work, writing bios, hanging shows, making posters and other professional activities  that they don't teach in art school are there for the asking. There are even some tutorials on-line.
