New magazine for the arts of Virginia- VENNUE - is launched
Vennue is a free, quarterly publication and will initially be distributed throughout Southwest and Central Virginia - eventually becoming the statewide publication for the arts. It will fill a void in the arts world, highlighting Virginia's fine arts and artists, theatres, musical events and more.

Elizabeth Parsons the Editorial Director, said the goal of Vennue is "to act as a bridge between the many creative centers scattered throughout the Commonwealth; to be a 'venue' that brings together these hubs and their members, that fosters collaboration and synergy among them." For additional information, please contact Beck Media Group at 540.904.6800 or vennue@beckmediagroup.com; Elizabeth Parsons can be reached at eparsons@beckmediagroup.com.

07-04-15 Dramatic Distortion .My 'word-a-day' email about Penelope meaning faithful wife linked to the painting shown at the left. When I enlarged it I noticed the the central figure is quite , so I reduced the spherization by 20%.

The impact is much less dramatic (enlarge for more.) Given the other distortions (e.g. the huge legs - almost Pieta proportions!) and the fact that the foreground statue isn't spherized, I think that the spherization might not be the accidental result of using a camera lucida, but deliberate... I'm going to try that myself someday...     Leslye Bloom

12-03-05 If there's a good response, "Blog" will get its own page. I sent a few copies of the Sam Gilliam review to some friends I thought might appreciate it and have already received two responses (below.) There was a strong positive response to the idea of having a blog in the recent members' survey, so who knows? - If you'd like to comment, please email me . - Leslye
