Call for Entries for The Floyd Artists Association and Tuggles Gap Motel and Restaurant.
The Floyd Artists Association, a co-op gallery in Floyd, is sponsoring an art festival in October called Art on the Parkway. It will be held at Tuggles Gap Restaurant at the intersection of Route 8 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our goal is to bring art lovers and the travellers on the Blue Ridge Parkway together with local artists during the peak of fall foliage. Art on the Parkway is an endorsed event of the Blue Ridge Parkway's 75th., Anniversary Celebration, and we are expecting a large crowd. There will be an all-day bluegrass jam on site, as well. We are looking forward to a wonderful event.

We anticipate an exciting event bringing together high traffic volume enhanced by the 75th., Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway; a blue-grass music jam; and fine art.

Dolores Mitchell www.doloresmitchell.com will serve as the major juror of this exhibit She received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, Art History and her PhD in Art History at UCLA. Delores has recently retired from teaching at California State University, Chico, where she had been a Professor of Art History for over 30 years. She was a founding owner and currently, is a member of the Avenue9Gallery Art Guild. As a writer of articles critiquing art and artists for local magazines, she has recently been published in a national magazine featuring her paintings reflecting the art and culture of Northern California.
Butte County Watercolor Society was founded in 2007 and is currently preparing for the Fourth Annual Members Show. Benefits of membership include opportunities to exhibit their work through galleries, museums and local venues. Once a month, members gather for workshops, critiques, and networking. Call for Entries for 3rd., Annual Westlake Library Juried Art Show
June 1st., to June 26th., 2010
Awards Reception: Friday, June 5th., 2010 4:00 - 6:30 PM.
All fine arts media by area artists is now being accepted for the 3rd., Annual Juried Art Show at Westlake Library, Hardy, Virginia. Artists may submit up to 3 original works , completed in the last three years and not shown previously in Smith Mountain Lake area shows. No artwork from teacher workshops will be accepted. Maximum size allowed is 36" x 42". Cash awards will be presented for Best in Show, 1st., 2nd., and Merit. Remaining proceeds will benefit the Smith Mountain Lake Westlake Library Capital Campaign.
A 4x6 digital photo of submitted art, along with your entry form and check for each piece must be postmarked by Thursday, May 6th., 2010. Attach a copy of the art Entry Number Form to the back of each photo submitted. Include a SASE along with your check made payable to: Midge Ovenshire, Library Show, 101 Briarcliff Dr. Moneta, VA 24121.
All art should be covered by proper insurance. If art is NFS, you must show a value for insurance purposes. No sales on premises, however, the Library will refer potential purchasers to the artist. There is no commission on sales of art, but please no early removal of artworks.
We are privileged to have Dr. David Webster as the Show Judge. Webster and his wife are summer SML residents. Currently he serves as a Professor of Art Education at University of West Georgia, Carrollton, Georgia. Prior to that he served as Professor of Art Education at University of Northern Iowa, in Cedar Falls. Webster served as Fulbright Exchange Professor at both Virginia Western Community College, Roanoke and Glenville State College, Glenville, WV. David Webster received both his BA and Master's degrees in England and his PhD at Florida State University, Tallahassee.
Artist acceptance/denial forms will be mailed by May 11th., 2010.
Accepted entries; framed, wired, and ready to hang must be delivered to the Westlake Library, Towne Center, Suite 109, Hardy, Virginia on Thursday, May 27th., 2010, 10 - 4 PM.
Pick up of exhibited artworks will be Wednesday, June 30th., 2010, 10 - 2 PM.

Chestnut Creek School of the Arts Grand-Opening.
April 16th., to 17th., 2010
Three opportunities to showcase your art, celebrate the grand opening
of Chestnut Creek School of the Arts and to honor the 75th Anniversary
for the Blue Ridge Parkway: A juried exhibition, an Art Show in the
Gazebo Park and a silent auction!
On Tuesday, March 16th., 2010, Chestnut Creek School of the Arts (CCSA)
will launch a month-long fine crafts silent auction. On Friday, April
16th., 2010, CCSA will open the Grand Gallery with a show entitled
Memories; The Blue Ridge Parkway in Retrospect, with a juried
collection of metaphorical or literal artworks pertaining to the
Parkway, not only the scenic beauty, the flora and fauna, but the
people and their craft who have contributed to the arts and cultural
heritage of the communities along the Parkway. On Saturday, April 17th.,
CCSA and members of City Gallery, Fine Art will host an open exhibit
for anyone wishing to hang a piece of their work in the Gazebo Park on
North Main Street. CCSA is presenting the juried show Memories, the
Gazebo Park Show, and the Parade of the Arts Grand Opening and in honor
of the Blue Ridge Parkway 75th., Anniversary. Regional artists within a
100 mile radius of Galax, Virginia are invited to submit entries for
acceptance into the two shows. The Memories show opens at 7:00 PM., on
Friday, April 16th., and runs through Monday, The Gazebo Park Show opens at
noon on April 17th., and hangs for the day only.

Deadline: All entries must be postmarked on or before February 22nd., 2010.
Juror of Awards: Halide Salam is Professor of Art at Radford
University who holds a PhD., in Philosophy, an MFA., and a BFA. She
has been painting and exhibiting in national and international
galleries. Her recently published book Between Two Spaces:
Reflections on the Spiritual in Art is a candid memoir of a visual
thinker and a painter, and traces the intellectual and spiritual
development of a visual artist living between two cultures, one that
she has been born and raised in and the other where she crystallizes.
Eligibility: The competition is open to artists in a 100 mile radius of
Galax, Virginia, 18 years of age or older. Publishers, galleries,
agents, and collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of artists.
Categories:
- Drawing (pastels, pen & ink, pencil, charcoal)
- Water Media (Gouche, water color)
- Oil/Acrylic
- Mixed Media (printmaking, collages and any combination of 2 or more media in 2-dimensional work)
- Photography (digital art, hand-colored original and Polaroid transfers)
- Sculpture.
Media not accepted: video/film, wearable art (clothing or jewelry).
All works submitted must be original in design and concept and created
within the last two years. Artwork must not be copied, in part or
wholly, from any published or copyrighted work. Please do not submit
images which would be inappropriate for general audiences.
Awards: Exemplary works will be displayed in a two-month-long
exhibition at 100 N. Main Street, beginning April 16th., 2010.
Cash awards totaling $2500 will be distributed as follows:
Best of Show - $300;
First Place each category-$200;
Second Place each category - $100;
People$B!G(Bs Choice Award - $100;
Merit Awards (6) - $50 each.
Additionally, each award winner will receive one ticket to the Grand
Opening Colorful-Black Tie Gala on Friday, April 16th., 2010.
Sales/Commissions: CCSA will retain 30% commission on all sales
generated via the exhibition. All works submitted MUST be available
for sale. All work must hang for the duration of the show.
Entry Requirements: Artists must submit a completed entry form and a
non-refundable entry fee of $25 US dollars. Acceptable forms of payment
include check, cash or money order.
Submission Guidelines: Artists may submit images (digital or slides)
for up to 3 works of art by the close of business on February 22nd., 2010.
No late submissions will be accepted. For sculptural or
three-dimensional pieces, artists may submit 2 images (or views) for
each work. The submitted work can be in any medium listed under
$B!H(BCategories$B!I(B, two and three dimensional. No work shall
exceed 50$B!m(B (including frame for two dimensional work). All two
dimensional work must be framed and ready to hang. All 3-dimensional
work must be dry, either freestanding or include its$B!G(B own stand or
display apparatus, and within the size limit of 55$B!I(Bx 55$B!I(B in
all directions, including any necessary display apparatus. CCSA will
provide pedestals as needed. Artists should consider the quality and
clarity of their images as well as their ability to be viewed online.
Please submit only well-photographed images. Entry images may be
delivered to 100 N. Main Street, Galax or mailed to P.O. Box 417, Galax, Virginia, 24333.
Please do not enter the actual piece of art at this time.
In order to provide enough detail for the juror, horizontal images
should have a width of 800 pixels or more, and vertical images should
have a height of 625 pixels or more. Images must be in a .tif or .jpg
format and in RGB color mode (not CMYK). Save your images with as
little compression as possible (i.e. choose the best quality when
saving your images) while maintaining a file size less than 1 MB (or
less than 1000KB) for each image. Do not submit slide shows, Flash
files, PowerPoint, etc. Do not insert any identifying information (No
artist's name, title, copyright, etc.) within the image file. File
names are limited to 15 characters and cannot have spaces, punctuation
marks, or non-English characters.
We reserve the right to use submitted images for inclusion in the
online exhibition and for the purpose of publicity.
Acceptance/Notification: Artists accepted to exhibit will be
notified by mail on Friday, March 12th., 2010. Accepted artwork
should be delivered to CCSA (100 N. Main Street, Galax) on Friday,
April 2nd., between 9 AM., and 5 PM., or Monday, April 6th., between 9 AM., to 7 PM.
Award winners will be mailed tickets to the Grand Opening
Colorful-Black Tie Gala by Monday, April 5th., and each specific award will
be announced at the opening on April 16nd., 2010.
Pickup: Artists are responsible for pickup of their work on Tuesday,
June 15th., from 9:00 AM., to 7:00 PM. All work must remain for the duration
of the show and must be picked up at this time. CCSA will not assume
responsibility for artwork that is left after Friday,
June 18th. Any artwork (including that which has been purchased)
will be re-sold, donated or otherwise removed from the premises if
still unclaimed after 30 days past the specified pick-up date.
Liability: Although every care will be taken, Chestnut Creek School of
the Arts cannot assume liability for damaged work. Entry submission
shall constitute agreement to comply with all conditions set forth in
this prospectus.
Art in the Gazebo Park Eligibility: The show is open to artists of any age in a 100 mile
radius of Galax, Virginia. Publishers, galleries, agents, and
collectors may not submit artwork on behalf of artists.
Categories: All categories will be accepted.
Sales/Commissions: Works submitted DO NOT have to be available for sale.

North Main Street, Galax by noon on Saturday, April 17th., 2010. Simply

The BRAA's newest program, a collaborative effort with Virginia Tech

called CommunityArtsWork (CAW), will soon be issuing a Call for Entries for a themed exhibit to hang in the Holtzman Alumni Center Gallery next Fall.
BRAA members involved in the formation of CAW are Charlotte Chan, Jeri Childers, Mary Montgomery, Nancy Norton and Lois Stephens who also designed the logo for the program.

VAE's May exhibit is Unfettered (which means free and unrestrained). It's time to let your imagination run wild! We are looking for your most innovative use of materials and ideas. There are no theme or media restrictions; all we ask is that work be wired for hanging (if 2D) and structrually sound. Juried by Mario Gallucci, Curatorial Assistant, Greenhill Center for NC Art in Greensboro.
